Denomination and Affiliation
The Vine is an independent international church without direct denominational affiliation but drawing leadership inspiration from many sources in the body of Christ around the world. We believe in being accountable to the local body of Christ in this city and have established strong links with the other pastors and local English speaking churches.
Governance
We believe that every expression of the body of Christ is responsible for it's own organisation and leadership under the Lordship of Jesus and is answerable to God according to the principles of scripture. At The Vine we try to take this seriously without it becoming a legalistic institution. We expect it to form a real but largely unseen foundation for who we are and how we operate. For most of the time there will be no need to refer to this structure as we believe that the most effective way of working together is out of relationship and not out of regulation.
Governance at The Vine is maintained through two means:
1) A non-profit company (The Vine Church Ltd) which is answerable to the legal and business laws of Hong Kong through a legally constituted set of company documents and regulations;
2) A church (The Vine Church) which is answerable to God and the church congregation through a church constitution.
In practice these two 'organizations' are run as one integrated entity by an elected body of elders and directors. All directors and members of the limited company are selected from the church elders. All elders and pastors of the church are selected from among the voting members of the church congregation
